A major cruise line has brought in a ban on a popular travel item and it’s left some passengers confused.
Cruise lines always have a list of banned items and it’s common to see potentially hazardous items such as candles and heating appliances listed.
But a freshly banned item on Carnival Cruise Line has surprised some regular cruisers.
In a cabin letter given to passengers when they board the cruise, the line explains that ‘handheld fans’ are banned from a popular area of the ship.
The letter states: ‘For safety reasons, handheld fans are not permitted in the nightclub or any indoor dance floor.’
As handheld fans are a popular travel accessory for hot destinations, many cruise guests were worried about the ban.
In a video message, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador John Heald, addressed the rules.
The ambassador stressed that only handheld fans – paper fans ‘made of cardboard’ – are banned from the indoor dance floor.

Guests will still be allowed to bring small electric handheld fans onboard Carnival Cruise Line ships.
Heald said: ‘Are fans allowed on board? Yes they are. We have not changed any rule regarding the fans that some of you like to have in your cabin.
‘The electric fans – no bigger than 12 inches – they are allowed, of course.
‘Please make sure they are in good working order. But you can, of course, continue to bring fans.’
And although some guests were confused by the rules, Heald added that the majority of passengers had reacted positively to the letter.
